Student Support
Every student has access to a form tutor, the Student Services Manager and the wider Sixth Form team. We work together to support students’ learning, wellbeing and preparation for their next steps.
Pastoral care and wellbeing
Students can speak to the team about emotional wellbeing, mental health concerns, caring responsibilities, attendance or other circumstances affecting their education. We work with students and families to identify the right support and involve specialist services where needed.
Learning and progress
Teachers and the Sixth Form team review students’ progress and identify where additional help is needed. Support may include help with subject learning, independent study, reading, English and mathematics, or accessibility tools. We adapt support to individual needs while maintaining high expectations.
Financial support
The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund can help eligible students overcome financial barriers to taking part in education. Support may include essential travel, books or equipment, depending on individual need and the approved bursary policy.
Eligibility and the support available are assessed individually. Please speak to the Student Services Manager for the current policy, application form and guidance on supporting evidence. Let us know if your circumstances change or you need help completing an application.
The team can also advise on free school meals and other appropriate support. Please ask about the relevant eligibility checks and application process.
Getting help
Students should speak to their tutor or the Sixth Form team. Parents and carers can contact the academy office on 0191 2288 400 and ask for the Sixth Form team. For urgent safeguarding concerns, use the academy’s published safeguarding contact arrangements.
Free Meals in Further Education
Eligible young people can access free meals if they or their parents get one of the qualifying benefits.
If you are a young person who receives Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance in your own right, you are also entitled to receive free school meals.
Apply for free school meals using the online application form

Care to Learn
This provides support with the costs of childcare for young parents in education to ensure young people who are parents are not prevented from taking part in education.
