Reading Lessons at Excelsior

In order to further develop the skills of  reading comprehension, students in Years 7, 8 and some  students in Year 9 participate in  additional, dedicated reading lessons. 

In these lessons, students complete personalised activities based on the ‘Book Journal approach’ from FFT Literacy. 

The approach builds on the principles of reciprocal reading and encourages students to explore text in intricate detail, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills to decode and comprehend different types of text.
