Academy Expectations
At Excelsior Academy we have the highest expectations of all children who attend the academy.
Our full Behaviour Policy is available in the Key Information section of the website.
Overview
As a parent or carer you agree to adhere to our home school agreement.
Behaviour is monitored through an online platform called Class Charts which teachers use to record ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ behaviours.
Behaviour Expectations (Be Safe - Be Respectful - Be Ready)
At Excelsior Academy we focus on positive behaviours – All children who attend the academy have the opportunity to accumulate positive points through ‘positive’ behaviours.
At times during the day a teacher or member of non teaching staff may issue ‘consequences’ for behaviour that is not safe or prevents other children from learning. Such behaviours are coded C1-C5 depending on the severity of the behaviour.
Once a child has reached level C, 3 following a minimum of two warnings a 30 minute detention will be issued, to be completed on the same day.
If your child does not (without legitimate reason) attend detention – They will be expected to attend a detention the next day for 1 hour with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Uniform (Be Ready)
Our expectation is that all Excelsior Academy students will wear the correct uniform as detailed in our uniform policy.
Parents and Carers should note that hoodies, trainers and leggings are not part of our school uniform and therefore, not allowed.
Jewellery, make up, false eyelashes and extreme hair styles are not permitted in the Academy.
Attendance and Movement (Be Ready - Be Safe)
The Academy day starts at 8.35 am. Students must be on site and be ready to learn by 8.45. To achieve the highest success and standard we expect a minimum of 95% attendance.
We expect all students to arrive at lessons on time and in a calm and safe manner, ready to learn and do their best.
Children who are late to school and/or late to lessons will receive an automatic same day detention for a minimum of 30 minutes and are expected to catch up any work missed.
Off Site Behaviours (Be Safe - Be Respectful)
We are all representatives of Excelsior Academy. We expect all students who attend the academy to behave in an appropriate manner, beyond the school gates
Ready – Respectful – Safe.
The academy will view negative behaviours off site as a disciplinary matter and appropriate action will be taken. This includes negative behaviours on school transport and within the local community.
Serious Breach of Behaviour Policy (Be Safe)
Behaviours such as smoking / vaping, verbal and physical aggression, sexualised behaviours, theft, vandalism and violence constitute serious breaches of our behaviour policy and will be dealt with as such. Involvement in any illegal activity will also be dealt with as a serious breach of behaviour policy.
When dealing with such behaviours the Academy will decide upon an appropriate course of action. In extreme circumstances this could lead to internal or external suspension.
Following a suspension Parents and Carers are expected to attend a reintegration meeting with a member of the pastoral team or Senior Leadership Team.
Other information
Parents and Carers should note that while we recognise that mobile phones are not permitted while children are in the learning areas of the Academy and any non compliance with our mobile phone regulations will be dealt with via our consequences and confiscation policy.
