Excelsior Academy is incredibly proud of the success of its recent production of Matilda Jr., which brought together more than 50 pupils from Years 4 to 13 in a truly collaborative whole-school performance.

Students were involved across every aspect of the production, from leading and ensemble performance roles to technical theatre, costume design, stage management, lighting, sound, and backstage support. The production provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils of all ages to work together, develop new skills, and showcase their talents.

Matilda Jr. is renowned for its challenging musical score and complex staging requirements. In addition to mastering demanding songs and choreography, pupils successfully navigated intricate timing between dialogue, underscoring, and digital scenery cues throughout the show. Their professionalism, commitment, and attention to detail resulted in performances that exceeded expectations and captivated audiences across all three nights.

The production was a testament to the dedication, resilience, and creativity of our young people, and we are immensely proud of every student involved.

“It was also great to see so many members of staff coming together to support the students. Even more special was seeing the pride on the faces of parents and families. There was such a genuine sense of joy and celebration in the room, and it was a reminder of the positive impact our school has on the young people and community we're part of.”

- Kim Reid, Assistant Principal

The overwhelmingly positive response from families and the wider school community highlighted the significant impact that the performing arts continue to have at Excelsior Academy, fostering confidence, teamwork, creativity, and a strong sense of belonging amongst pupils. The success of Matilda Jr. stands as another example of the exceptional opportunities available to students across the academy and the dedication of staff in supporting them to achieve their very best.
