Our Shared Curriculum Principle

Across the Laidlaw Schools Trust we share common values and the highest aspirations for the children and young people entrusted to our care.

We share the fundamental curriculum principle; that all of our pupils can and must make progress. Together, we know that we can make that progress for all not only possible, but inevitable. We call this principle Inevitable Progress. Each of the Secondary schools in the Laidlaw family builds its curriculum on this shared idea, but adapts structures to reflect the specific context.

IP at Excelsior Academy (IP@EA) builds on our shared LST roots and the best practice across our Trust, evolving  to meet the needs of our EA pupils and to reflect the changing landscape of educational research.

Inevitable Progress at Excelsior Academy  IP@EA

To enable all of our pupils to make progress at EA, we know our pupils well and make  the necessary adjustments to  our curriculum, our approaches to teaching and provision  so that progress is always possible.

We have a strong focus on developing professional practice  so that our staff have a wide range of subject teaching and pastoral approaches to draw upon.

Post pandemic, we know that our pupils at Excelsior  have ever more diverse starting points. To make progress possible for all pupils, we have further developed our behaviour curriculum and further enriched our approach to personal development as well as extending our focus on the importance of reading and the distinctive nature of each subject.
