Our Pastoral Care Team
Throughout your time at Excelsior Sixth Form, you are supported by a dedicated Pastoral Care team who are there to support you with your studies, assist you with UCAS and job applications and provide careers guidance and emotional support.
Newcastle Schools Bursary Scheme
Students may be eligible to apply for the Newcastle Schools Bursary Scheme for 16-19-year-olds. There are two types of bursary available.
Standard Bursary
To be eligible for the standard bursary you must meet all four of the following conditions:
- attend a school in Newcastle which is part of the scheme
- enter Year 12, 13 or 14 in September 2023
- be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2023

live in a household with an annual income (including benefits and tax credits) below £27,000
Enhanced Bursary
To be eligible for the enhanced bursary you must meet all four of the following conditions:
- attend a school in Newcastle which is part of the scheme
- enter Year 12, 13 or 14 in September 2023

be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2023
You must also belong to one of the following groups:
- Be in care
- Have left care after being in care for a minimum of three months since the age of 14
- Be receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in your own right
- Be receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence payments
If you aren’t in one of these groups, you may still be eligible depending on your personal circumstances for:
Free Meals in Further Education
Eligible young people can access free meals if they or their parents get one of the qualifying benefits.
If you are a young person who receives Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance in your own right, you are also entitled to receive free school meals.

Care to Learn
This provides support with the costs of childcare for young parents in education to ensure young people who are parents are not prevented from taking part in education.
