Excelsior Academy proudly took part in a record-breaking global cookery lesson led by world-renowned chef Jamie Oliver, helping to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest ever multi-venue cookery lesson.

Held on 1st July, the event brought together more than 10,500 participants from 42 countries across six continents, including over 500 schools from across the UK. Live-streamed from Jamie’s Cookery School in London, the interactive session guided pupils through how to make fresh pasta and a simple no-cook tomato sauce, a nutritious, beginner-friendly dish designed to build confidence in the kitchen.

The record-breaking cook-along formed part of Jamie Oliver’s 10 Skills and Ministry of Food programmes, which aim to equip young people with essential life skills in cooking, nutrition, budgeting and food safety. At the heart of the initiative is Jamie’s belief that every child should leave school able to cook and provide for themselves.

At Excelsior Academy, the event involved pupils from Year 7B4 and 8B4.

"Taking part gave our students the chance to be part of something bigger, showing them the value of cooking as a life skill and connecting them to children across the country. It was a proud moment as a teacher to see them so engaged in their own health and wellbeing. Teaching young people about nutrition and good habits early on is vital to helping them lead healthier, more independent lives."

- Phyllis Carlisle, Head of Department (Food) at Excelsior Academy.

Excelsior Academy is delighted to have played a role in this global moment, celebrating food, skills and the power of shared experiences in the kitchen.
