On Wednesday 8th October, Excelsior Academy welcomed Year 6 students from local primary schools for an engaging Primary Careers Fair. The event provided students with a hands-on opportunity to explore a range of career paths and gain insight into different industries, all within the dynamic environment of a secondary school.

Six interactive stalls were available throughout the day: the Department for Work and Pensions offered employability-skills activities; Northumbria University highlighted opportunities in higher education; Dr Susan Mandala from Writing Works Consulting explored how language can reveal personal insights; the Theatre Royal provided an introduction to the performing arts; Teacher Active presented careers in teaching and Sarah Clark from Laidlaw Schools Trust led a creative 'design your own school house' competition.

Students were encouraged to participate in competitions throughout the day, with prizes awarded for some of the most thoughtful and creative questions. Excelsior Academy's Sixth Form Ambassadors supported the event by guiding the young visitors and assisting at the stalls.

"The primary careers fair was a great success. The Year 6 children brought tremendous enthusiasm and energy to the event and engaged brilliantly with all our visitors. When asked if they had enjoyed the day, the response was a resounding yes! Many children also indicated that the careers fair had prompted them to think about what they might want to do after leaving school".

Events of this kind play a crucial role in allowing students to experience a secondary school setting, explore potential career paths and find inspiration for their future. The lively and interactive format of the fair ensured that the pupils not only enjoyed the experience but also left with new ideas and ambitions.
