Grace Donnelly and Olivia Watts from Newcastle United Women’s Football Club visited Excelsior last week!

Fresh from their triumphant 2-1 win against Portsmouth the previous night, the dynamic duo took time out to connect with the EA Year 7 girls' football team and pupils who attend our Link provision.

They shared insights into their football journeys, answering thought-provoking questions from pupils ranging from equal opportunities in women's football to the crucial support of their families. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and curiosity as the students soaked in the wisdom of these accomplished athletes.

Next, attention shifted to the astroturf, where the Year 7 girls' team received first-hand exposure to professional training techniques led by Grace and Olivia. The session wasn't just about improving their skills; it was an empowering experience that left the girls feeling more connected to the world of women's football.

“The pinnacle of the day was the announcement that the Year 7 girls' team would have the incredible opportunity to walk out with the Newcastle United Women's Football Club in a future match. The girls, overwhelmed with joy, eagerly anticipate this chance to be part of a live football experience at a professional level.

The visit was a testament to the club's commitment to community engagement and fostering a love for the beautiful game amongst young talents.”
